About Dynamic Language Learning
Dynamic Language Learning was founded in 2019 as the contuniation of TPRS Academy and TPRS Nederland. With the inspiring leadership of Kirstin Plante a variety of courses and workshops about Comprehensible Input (CI) was offered in all of Europe.
As of 1 January 2026 I (Carmen Meester) will continue the journey of Dynamic Language Learning. As a Spanish teacher I use CI since 2015 and since 2017 I train language teachers to teach with CI as well.
Why Dynamic Language Learning
'Congratulations, you have completed the A1 level'
This was on the last page of the text book I used to work with. I was astonished. Because I knew that my students had definitely not completed the A1 level. They were not capable to have simple conversations about everyday topics. Despite my effort, the excercices they needed to fill out and the teacher manual I had followed.
Something had gone completely wrong. And during a workshop I discovered what had gone wrong. In this workshop I was going to learn Russian. Without a book. Without making notes. All I was supposed to do was listen to understand. And I did. I understood the language, I understood the Russian words, I understood what the story was about. After 30 minutes I was able to say in simple Russian what this lesson was about.
How could this work?
It's actually very simple. Language is not knowledge. Language is a system that your brain develops based on language that you hear and/or read. Scientists agree unanimously: a lot of input of language (conversations, stories, articles, books, etc) is key for learning a language.
Learning a language is completely different from learning Geography or Biology. A language is acquired in a completely different than learning facts that you need to pass your Geography exam.
I had been teaching language as if it were Geography.
